KRAV MAGA – THE MOST EFFECTIVE CONTACT COMBAT SYSTEM
Krav Maga is the most effective contact combat system in the world.
KRAV MAGA AS A HOBBY
Krav Maga is a powerful and easy-to-adapt self-defence system meant for adult (K-18) men and women. It is based on straightforward techniques and tactical prediction.
Apart from defending oneself against basic grips, chokes, punches and kicks in violent situations, Krav Maga also applies techniques against bladed weapons, bats or guns. It also includes self-defence on the ground and acting in the situation against several attackers. Moreover, this system utilises improvised weapons for self-defence.
THE 360 DEGREES OF KRAV MAGA
This system is based on the instinctive responses under stress. Techniques prepare you against the attacks from all possible directions, the self-defence range is full 360 degrees. Techniques used in Krav Maga are free from all unnecessary and complicated phases because in real-life situations only straightforward methods matter. The goal is to prevent an attack as well as perform counter techniques. Tactical prediction is an important part of the system, which helps to avoid dangerous situations, analysing risks and being prepared against multiple attacks and possible weapons. The stress caused by the violent situation, control of aggression and use of force as well as simulation of a real-life situation is also a significant part of the training process.
The training content in Krav Maga depends on the general level, profession and needs of the training group. Training is divided into self-defence, use of force and contact combat, where the focus and content of the training are chosen according to the target group. However, teaching to different groups has still some similarities.
Self-defence version of Krav Maga is usually taught to civilians on basic, advanced and special courses. The use of force version of Krav Maga is mostly taught to public authorities and representatives of security services in their own closed circle. Contact combat version is practised by military services, where the focus of the training is on full contact in warlike situations.
BASED ON REAL FIGHT SITUATIONS
Krav Maga, which is known as a self-defence and fighting system developed by Israel Defence Forces, is originally from Bratislava in 1940. The creator of this system, Jewish Slovak Imrich (Imi) Lichtenfeld (1910-1998), fought against Nazi robbery and persecution in the Jewish resistance movement. Eventually, Imi had to flee the city due to Nazi terror and ended up in the territory of modern Israel.
As the State of Israel was founded in 1948, Imi was chosen for the position of the Chief Instructor of the close fight education in Israel Defence Forces thanks to his fighting experience. He has worked on this position for the next 20 years developing easy and fast-to apply fighting system, which was later named Krav Maga (Contact Combat). The Israeli military forces have never kept a low profile in terms of participation in battles, so there was a plentiful amount of real field information about actual battles. After retiring in 1964, Imi focused on developing and applying military Krav Maga techniques for self-defence in civilian situations.
The goal of creating such techniques for men, women and children was to act against aggressive terrorism since Jewish civilians were constantly subjected to armed attacks (with the usage of knives, sticks and guns) because of the religious and political disputes. The techniques taught to civilians are based on hundreds of real fight situations and human behaviour in them. Civilian techniques quickly gained huge recognition in Israel and later all around the world. Nowadays Krav Maga is taught not only in Israel military service but also in schools, universities, governmental institutions and different schools across the country. For the last decades, Krav Maga has also spread across the borders and is currently taught in almost all the Western world in private Krav Maga schools including hundreds of different military and authority groups (e.g. FBI, GSS, IDF, Mossad, CIA, DEA, ATF, SWAT, SAS, GIGN, Scotland Yard, LAPD) because of its effectiveness.
WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?
Krav Maga is suitable for adult (K-18) men and women with a clean record (no criminal background) as a hobby. It also is beneficial for professionals on authority and security duties as additional training.
SPORT FEDERATION
In Finland, Krav Maga training is organised under the authority of Pohjolan Krav Maga Self-Defence Federation (PKMI), which develops and promotes the activities this discipline represents.
PKMI is also a member of the biggest international federation – European Krav Maga Federation (FEKM-RD). There are more than 15 000 members of this federation around the world.
